What Would Santa Drive?
‘Tis the season to slug the eggnog, brave the mall and do something entirely regrettable at the office holiday party. And for those of us still young at heart, we choose to still believe in Santa in all of his round gutted glory. If you’re a believer and an automotive enthusiast, this begs the burning yuletide question, “What Would Santa Drive?”
We all know that Santa spends the majority of his time with potentially annoying elves in a snow packed workshop. So post-holiday, surely he and the missus like to fly solo and enjoy some weather that’s a little less arctic. Since Santa is a notorious open-air driver, perhaps the Chevy Bel Air would be his pick.
But he’s also the guy that likes to lap the Earth in one evening, so it is entirely possible that Santa would be a speed demon. So certainly the Porsche GT3 RS would butter the biscuit. With a 0-60 time of 3.1 seconds, he could smoke Rudolph in no time.
Or maybe, after a night of staring at reindeer rear ends, he prefers to roll in style in a classic Benz complete with white wall tires.
Yet, since Mr. Claus likes the outdoors and is unquestionably over 40, it can’t be ruled out that maybe he likes to knock some balls around the green stuff - and what better way to get there than in the Alfa Romeo Montreal.
Or maybe Santa’s too cool for golf. Maybe his outdoor activity of choice includes some light off-roading in a classic Ford Bronco.
Yet, since everybody and their brother seems to have a crossover SUV these days, whose to say that Santa would be any different? I’d like to think he’d rock this Scion C-HR concept with 21” wheels - because Santa may be stealth, but he’s sure not shy about leaving an impression.
Regardless of how the jolly old soul moves on four wheels, let’s just hope he remembers to leave a little good cheer in all of our driveways this year!
