Trickle Down Performance: 2020 Shelby GT350R Gets GT500 Parts
While much of the attention of Mustang faithful has been focused on the soon-to-be on sale 2020 Shelby GT500 with its supercharged V8 and state-of-the-art performance technology, the naturally aspirated Shelby GT350R hasn’t been forgotten.
In fact, for the 2020 model year Ford will be introducing some modest upgrades to the track-special GT350R, with most of them coming from its more powerful and more expensive GT500 counterpart.
While the GT350R’s “Voodoo” flat plane crank V8 carries over with the same 526 horsepower, the car gets revised front suspension geometry with a new upgraded steering knuckle borrowed from the GT500.
There’s also a new steering rack and the electronic power steering unit has been re-calibrated to further improve the GT350R’s already razor-sharp handling and responsiveness. This is of course in addition to all of the other upgrades that have always separated the GT350R from the standard GT350.
Lastly, the 2020 GT350R also gets new color options including Grabber Lime and Twisted Orange while a more traditional and understated “Iconic Silver” has also been added to the mix.
While it’s clear that the GT350R may no longer be the performance king of the Mustang family, it’s a car that’s always had more than enough unique personality to stand on its own and is basically a guaranteed future classic status. It may not be the fastest, but it may just be the coolest and these updates only make it better.
