The Five Most Outrageous 4x4s at SEMA

There is a fine line between madness and genius, and the builders of the most outrageous vehicles at the SEMA Show walked that tightrope as their brought their visions to life. The recipe seems to be to start with something a little out of the ordinary, add a metric ton of horsepower, giant tires, and bathe it in a color that blinds people as they walk by. These are the 4x4s that caught our attention during the show and seemed to constantly be surrounded by people five deep trying to shoot photos. Wondering why there are not any JK Wranglers? There were enough new Jeeps at the show to warrant their own entire category! [caption id="attachment_26775" align="alignnone" width="1200"] You have a Mega Cab? That’s cute. Diesel Sellerz built the Mega Ram Runner with six doors and four giant octagonal stacks in the bed. This truck has five ton military axles with matching tires and wheels and a custom suspension with coilover shocks. The truck barely fit in the Fusion Bumpers booth at the show. You have a Mega Cab? This year they had a Hemi-powered JK with nitrous and paddle tires, but people barely noticed because the Wrangler was parked next to this beast. Daystar fully restored this rare Forward Control and stuffed a Hemi engine under the passenger compartment, and then topped it with Mattracks to make it even wilder. Well, Ken Block’s new “Hoonicorn” is an all-wheel-drive Mustang built by drift king Vaughn Gittin Jr’s RTR brand. It bucks our requirements of huge tires and a flashy paint job for a flat black wrap and slicks, but the 845 horsepower Roush Yates V8 and one-off Sadev all-wheel drive system definitely got our attention. Look for the car in Block’s new video, Gymkhana 7, soon. Wait didn’t we say 4x4s? Well, Ken Block’s new “Hoonicorn” is an all-wheel-drive Mustang built by drift king Vaughn Gittin Jr’s RTR brand. Dennis Anderson’s King Sling is the original Mega Truck and still the most popular. The 57-inch tall cut agriculture tires are cut to sling mud, and the 1,600 horsepower, alcohol burning big block is straight out of a monster truck. This truck was in the Spectra Chrome booth, and their wraps seemed to be everywhere at the SEMA Show this year. Mega Trucks blur the line between Monster Truck, drag racer, and mud truck. Rock Solid Off Road had the body widened eight inches to match the chassis and polished the entire thing to a mirror finish. A 383ci stroker engine turns 41-inch tires on 20-inch rims.
