Surf, Art, & Lowrides at Legacy Car Show
Bringing together these styles into one curated art and car show is the work of Dakota Gomez from Hurley International and Bobby Ruiz of Tribal Gear. While Hurley is one of the top names in the surf and action sports industry; Tribal Gear out of San Diego is one of the most respected street wear companies combining car, art and tattoo culture. The result is the Legacy Car Show featuring custom cars, several art galleries including custom pieces for the show, as well as the music and food of Southern California to help bring it all together. Displayed on the floor of the Hurley store was the iconic lowrider, “Gypsy Rose.” To honor its Legacy (pun intended), Hurley produced a limited edition set of board shorts inspired by the car’s rosy paint scheme. A further example of art blending the styles is the graffiti-inspired surfboard designs and an art gallery featuring both surf photographers and car builders. A special exhibit featured the studio and artwork of the late Teen Angel whose street and lowrider-styled art have inspired the current generation of enthusiasts and artists alike.
Various car clubs including iconic lowrider clubs, kustom and hot rod groups were invited to display their cars and motorcycles at the Hurley Compound in Costa Mesa, California. The wild paint schemes and blinding chrome echoed a colorful sunset on the coast. Enjoy the video for a slice of true So Cal style.
