Raptor Lite? The 2021 Ranger Tremor is Ford's New Small Off-Road Pickup for America

Ever since Ford announced that it was bringing back the Ranger pickup to the US market, there's been speculation and a lot of hope over the possibility of the hardcore Ranger Raptor being sold along side its larger F-150 Raptor sibling.

Unfortunately Ford has yet to bring the overseas market Ranger Raptor to America, but it did just debut an off-road focused package for the 2021 Ranger hat will wear the "Tremor" designation.

While much more mild than the Raptor, Ford is calling the Tremor-equipped Ranger the most off-road capable version available in the US market, and it's easy to see why.

Among the upgrades in the Tremor package are a lifted suspension with FOX dampers and piggyback reservoirs in the rear. Along with a set of larger all terrain tires, the Ranger Raptor gets 9.7 inches of ground clearance as well as more suspension travel.

It also gets a front bash plate and underbody skid plates—and of course a locking rear differential. It's terrain management system has also been recalibrated for more off-road capability.

A few cosmetic updates also help identify the Tremor model, including a unique grille design, special badging, an optional graphics package and "Tremor" branding on the seats.

As with all Rangers sold in the US, the Ranger Tremor will be powered by the same 270hp, 310 pound/foot 2.3L EcoBoost engine mated to a ten-speed automatic transmission.

The cost for equipping the Tremor package on your 2021 Ranger will come in at $4,290, with availability on XLT and Lariat Ranger 4x4 Crew Cab models. They will begin to roll off the assembly line early next year.

While it will never generate the same kind of buzz that its platform mate the 2021 Bronco will generate, it's nice to see Ford upping the capability of the Ranger off the showroom floor. Now, c'mon just give us the Raptor next time...
