ultra4-2014-national-championships28 Day 1 of racing at the Ultra4 National Championships was more than enough to keep you on the edge of your seat! The track layout is brutal and the general consensus from the racers is a mix of all-out excitement combined with some questions about how it's all going to go down during a packed course tomorrow (catch some video action from today). The course at Wild West Motorsports Park is basically a short course section with plenty of elevation changes and some jump areas combined with a quick desert section in the middle just before a massive boulder mountain. Racers have been adding wire shelving as make-shift windshields because of all the rocks that are getting thrown. Challenging to keep momentum going all the up, it is surely going to bring a lot of difficulties come tomorrow - in fact a number of racers were DNF during qualifying. Speaking of... it's Gary Ferravanti, Sr. who has the pole on race day, clocking a full 5 seconds faster than Loren Healy in second followed by Shannon Campbell in third.
