Motorcycle Paramedic: Lane Splitting With Purpose [Video]
(Photo:Jonckie) For as long as I can remember, I've ridden motorcycles. My dad grew up riding, so it was sort of a family thing I suppose. I love it. It’s a wonderful way to disconnect from the daily grind. While I don’t get out on the dirt as much as I used to, I see plenty of pavement time on two wheels. Like many of you, I get sucked into YouTube from time to time watching riding clips. The advent of the GoPro camera has revolutionized the viewing experience. To see how some people ride in other countries (and even ours for that matter) is downright crazy at times. One video I came across the other day really struck me as interesting. So, I figured I would share. At a little over 10 minutes, the video below would be considered long for something with no narration or booming soundtrack. But, what you do get is a firsthand, in-your-face ride-along with an EMS motorcycle paramedic. These bikes are often used to transport organs and blood rapidly from one location to another. It’s pretty incredible footage when you consider the amount of situational awareness the rider has, along with importance of his job. Hopefully, you’ll have a few minutes to spare and get a taste of what it would be like to be in the rider’s shoes.
