Killer Instinct: Nissan Debuts The Titan Warrior Concept
Nissan is on a role with its new Titan. Today, the company launched its coolest pickup truck concept to date, the Titan Warrior. The Warrior is based off of the all-new 2016 Nissan Titan XD and takes what was already a large truck to even bigger heights. Of course, this concept is fit with the Cummins 5.0L V-8 diesel engine, which sports a compound turbo system.
Nissan states that the “TITAN Warrior Concept builds on the recent Project Titan, a crowd-sourced customization of an original-generation Titan that sent two U.S. military veterans representing Wounded Warrior Project® on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure in Alaska. The new concept truck also pays homage to Nissan's heritage of off-road racing and adventuring, which goes back to the days of Baja "Hardbody" competition pickups and Paris-Dakar Rally treks.” Sporting a set of 35-inch Nitto Trail Grapplers, a PRG suspension, and selectable ARB Air Lockers, it is one of the most capable Titan’s we’ve ever come across.
The Warrior concept was lifted three inches over a normal Titan XD and rides on 37-inch-tall tires. In addition to raising the vehicle, the track width jumped from 80.6 inches to 86.6 inches. The grille and headlights were also modified, along with custom front and rear fenders. We’re told the hood vents are actually functional as well.
Custom LED lighting was used throughout the build and were used to add subtle flare to the truck, like the T logo that forms the rear taillights. Heavy-duty skidplates run beneath truck, while a quad-tip exhaust system is cleanly merged with the rear bumper. Helping to keep weight down and maintain some sense of aerodynamics are carbon fiber cab and tailgate spoilers.
Inside, the Magma orange accents run throughout the cabin. The well-appointed premium interior even got a custom steering wheel, which was milled from a single block of aluminum. Other convenience features include hot-and-cold drink containers that are integrated into the center console.
Nissan writes that the suspension was the biggest departure from stock. “In the front, the standard suspension has been replaced with custom upper and lower control arm with performance ball joints, along with racing-style internal bypass reservoir coil-over shocks with custom reservoir mounts and tie-rod extensions. In the rear, the modifications include custom internal bypass reservoir shocks with custom reservoir mounts. Adjusted-length prototype axles were installed, along with a custom sway bar, relocated sway bar brackets and rear lift blocks and U-bolts. Hydraulic pressurized bump stops were also added front and rear.”
We doubt many of these concept cues will go into production, but this does give us a great indicator of the potential for the new Nissan Titan XD.
