All Star Bash is the Catalina Wine Mixer of Drifting

In the movie “Step Brothers”, the Catalina Wine Mixer was the biggest, most highly anticipated helicopter leasing event in the Western hemisphere. If American drifting had an equivalent, without a doubt it would be JustDrift’s All Star Bash. justdrift_asb2014_14 For the last seven years, drifters of all skill levels, from all over the US and Canada have converged to Willow Springs International Raceway for the mother of all drifting “bashes” - All Star Bash, an epic two-days of drifting in the desert. All Star Bash takes it back to the drama-free days of drifting where all that matters is you and a bunch of friends drifting together on the race track. justdrift_asb2014_12 justdrift_asb2014_45 Since its inception in 2007, All Star Bash has continually grown every year. This year was no different, with over 130 drivers registered and almost 2,000 spectators in attendance, most of them camping at the track overnight. justdrift_asb2014_08 Even FD Pros, like Chelsea DeNofa from Florida, came out to play. justdrift_asb2014_10 With so many drivers, Willow Springs opens up their Horse Thief Mile and Streets race tracks for drifting. This is the one time each year that they allow drifting on the 1.6 mile Streets road course. justdrift_asb2014_44 Many Formula Drift Pro and Pro 2 drivers bring out their cars, but share the track with a diverse field of cars. From the “typical” LSx V8-swapped 240sx’s and RX7s... justdrift_asb2014_18 ...to E36 BMWs which have been growing in popularity. justdrift_asb2014_23 So much so in fact that this s13 featured a E36 front end conversion! justdrift_asb2014_04 Others included the tried and true AE86 Corolla... justdrift_asb2014_07 ...to a Tacoma pickup truck... justdrift_asb2014_06 ...and even rear wheel drive converted Subaru Imprezas. justdrift_asb2014_30 Drifting on both tracks simultaneously leaves the air filled with tire smoke leading up to the evening’s main event – Team Tandem Competition. justdrift_asb2014_27 justdrift_asb2014_21 Where almost every drifting competition battles it out in one-on-one tandem drifts, in team tandem groups of three to seven cars form an epic drift train in a winner-take-all, no rules competition - judged merely on style and proximity to each other. justdrift_asb2014_25 Team names have as much character as the cars - names such as ANIMAL STYLE, HammerTime, HARDCORE and NoSmoke. justdrift_asb2014_24 There was plenty of door banging... justdrift_asb2014_28 With the resulting damaged body kit carnage to be found scattered trackside. justdrift_asb2014_33 Drifting goes into the night when the sky turns dark and the cold desert weather sets in. After drifting stops the action continues and you’ll find most drivers and their friends huddled around a BBQ talking about all the near-misses of the day or working to fix their car for the next day of drifting. justdrift_asb2014_32 Some, of course, are so tired from the day's events that they head straight to bed. justdrift_asb2014_42 The next morning, drivers who have survived the first day hit the track for another full day of open drifting.
