A New Gas V8, A New Diesel & More: Ford Unveils Redesigned 2023 Super Duty Trucks
While Ford has been making big waves with popular new models to its lineup like the Maverick, two types of Bronco and the all-electric F-150 Lightning, the company certainly hasn’t forgotten about its more established products.
And this week the Blue Oval brand has debuted the latest iteration of its massively important F-Series Super Duty pickup truck, with new powertrains, new tech and an updated up look to keep the big pickup looking fresh and functional.
With a wide swath of variants aimed at everyone from contractors and industrial fleets to weekend warriors, Ford is heavily stressing the versatility of the new Super Duty, and they've added two engines to the lineup to add even more choices.
Gas or Diesel, Take Your Pick
The first is a new standard 6.8L naturally aspirated gasoline V8, which replaces the previous 6.2 as the base engine. The popular 7.3 liter gasoline V8 sticks around, this time with some improvements—most importantly increased torque.
Those opting for a turbodiesel option will find two different 6.7L Power Stroke options, including a new high output version with a new turbo setup and other tweaks that Ford says will it make it the most powerful in its class.
Sadly, Ford hasn't released finalized horsepower or torque figures for any of these engines yet, but for the first time all of them will be mated to ten-speed automatic transmission.
As another interesting touch, Ford has now made four-wheel-drive standard on the XLT trim and above. And speaking of 4x4s, the Tremor package returns on the new Super Duty with off-road suspension, a locking front differential, terrain modes and even trail-turn assist seen on the Bronco.
Towing is Everything
Dually options are also abundant of course, and these heavy duty rigs continue to deliver the ultimate in hauling, and can be made even better with upgraded tires like the Nitto Dura Grappler.
Few things are more important for a Super Duty pickup than towing, and there are some nice updates here not just in terms of capacity but with tools that make pulling large trailers as easy as possible.
These include an onboard scale system to provide estimated weight, cameras that let you see all around even when the tailgate is lowered, automatic trailer hitch connection and more.
Work & Play
This is all on top of other features designed to make life easier for the many commercial customers or for those who use their trucks on weekend adventures.
Finally, there are the requisite interior and exterior updates, the latter of which now includes no less than seven different types of front grille.
Pricing for the new 2023 Super Duty trucks hasn't been released yet, but we'll certainly know more before they start hitting dealerships early next year.
