7 Surpising Styles at Subaru Summer Solstice 2016
In the sea of Subarus that took over the Port of Los Angeles one beautiful day, there were a few that really caught our eye. However you like your Subaru, it was all here. From old school Subarus still kickin' it to modern day slammed and lifted builds. This year's Subaru Summer Solstice definitely kept us on our toes. Here are seven things we didn't expect to see:
1. A retro overland Legacy on gold wheels.
Roof top tents are more commonly seen on overland vehicles such as Jeep Wranglers and Toyota Land Cruisers. This first gen Legacy on gold STi wheels isn’t one you would associate with overlanding, but its Tepui roof top tent is ready to make its home anywhere you park it.
2. An SVX in pristine condition.
It’s hard to believe that this car is already 20 years old. The SVX was never a popular car, so to see a clean, stock example such as this red one was definitely a sight for sore eyes.
A window-within-a-window. One of the SVX’s most distinguishing design features.
3. A Subaru BRAT still in its prime.
Another pristine old school Subaru on display was this BRAT (with matching RC model). Unlike the SVX, the Subaru BRAT saw its time in the spotlight in the '70s and '80s.
With a 5-speed manual, 4WD with low and high gears, the BRAT will get you almost anywhere with room for two in the jumpseats in the bed.
4. Slammed Subarus.
There just aren’t enough lowered Legacy wagons. One of my personal favorites from the show.
Taking the slammed lifestyle a step further, it’s not often that you see a VIP-style Subaru.
This one was complete with marble themed engine bay, champagne holders, Junction Produce pillows and curtains.
5. Lifted Subarus.
On the opposite end of the stance spectrum, there are those who like to put their AWD Subarus to use and hit the trail.
Featuring custom fabbed bumpers, roof racks and lift kits. The added ground clearance and turbo motors make for a fun time blasting through trail.
As you can see by the layer of dirt, it’s good to see that these Subarus are getting the ultimate Subaru experience.
6. A Time Attack Legacy GT.
Unlike the VIP Legacy, this one traded in its heated leather seats for a pair of Recaro Pole Position bucket seats, Kognition chassis mounted wing and big sticky tires.
Under the hood, this family sedan packs a built motor making nearly 600 hp.
7. A widebody STi.
The custom, sheet metal wide body on this Subaru STI is still a work in progress, but possibly the widest at the show.
Okay, definitely the widest.
And you got only a glimpse of seven. There are more sights to be seen in our Subaru Summer Solstice gallery.
