2015 LA Auto Show
Auto show season is upon us and one of our favorites happens right in our own backyard at the Los Angeles Convention Center. This is where we're able to catch a first hand glimpse at upcoming releases and concepts of tomorrow. The Europeans came strong with performance, the Japanese with style and the one domestic that had us was Ford's 2017 GT supercar. How about we kick things off with that?
The Ford GT is an absolutely stunning piece of art. What I would give for a chance to cruise around in this...
Scion showed off its C-HR Concept, a vehicle they hope to bring to production in the next coming year as a 4-door SUV-type, and as Scion execs have told us, is set to be one of its next iconic models, keeping true to the original Scion spirit.
If you're initially thinking Miata, you wouldn't be totally wrong. The Fiat 124 Spider is essentially a Mazda Miata (Fiata? Anyone, anyone?), sans a distinct Fiat front end and other features. But what this is going to come powered with is what has us excited the most: the same turbocharged engine that comes in the Fiat 500 Abarth. This (and the Miata) could become one of the greater cars with modification potential to come along since the FR-S.
Speaking of turbocharged, here's the 2016 Honda Civic Coupe that'll come with a 174hp 1.5L boosted motor; alternatively there will also be a 2.0L 158hp model. If this is a taste of what's to come, then the Si and Type R will be sure to please.
If you're into customized Japanese cars, hit the lower level lobby of the South Hall - you'll see this LFA...
...and one of the first Pandem/Rocket Bunny RC-Fs by LexusTuned.
Back to the Europeans: Alfa Romeo now offers this stunning sedan, powered by a 505hp, 2.9L twin-turbo V6 (developed by Ferrari) and is said to be one of the quickest sedans to see the Nürburgring. And if you can pronounce its name properly, bonus points. Meet the Giulia (like "Julia") Quadrifoglio (yeah, we're stuck there). Pure f'ing awesome.
Parked alongside Giulia, this classic TZ2 coupe.
One of the most talked about concepts at the LA Auto Show is VW's GTE Sport, a plug-in hybrid that's designed to be fuel efficient and race ready.
And now, one of our favorite halls: Porsche - the big debut is the 911 Targa 4S parked to one of its older brethren.
919 Hybrid racecar
911 GT3 RS: so badly want!
Any STI fans out there? Located on the side of the lower lobby of the South Hall was this special STI tribute display from Subaru, showcasing one of Colin McRae's old rally cars and a holy grail JDM 22B STI Impreza.
Mazda Cosmo in the Galpin Auto customized car hall.
The new NSX is perfect in white, and if you are able to see this at the LA show, look up - Acura's high-tech display flashes back and forth between development videos and a real-time overhead camera so you can get creative with the selfies.
Subaru's Impreza Sedan Concept: much more angular than the current model - let's hope the production model retains most, if not all of this great design.
2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG C63 coupe
Drop-top Range Rover Evoque: perfect for the City of Angels.
Lexus adds F performance to the GS sedan in this ultra-sporty GS F variant. Comfortable and fast: look out for a driving review shortly.
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo fans, this is your last chance to own one of the best sports sedans ever to come to market: the Final Edition Evo X is available in limited numbers until the very last one is sold. Don't sleep.
Orange accents and a roll cage make for one hell of an M4. That is, an extremely limited to 700 worldwide, M4 GTS, also equipped with water injection and capable of pushing 493hp.
Can't go to an auto show and not take a photo of the king: Nissan's R35 GT-R.
