Readers' Rides: What's in Our Garages
If you haven't been lucky enough to pick up one of our print issues from Nitto at an event like SEMA or King of The Hammers, this "Reader's Rides" will be new to you. Each print issue (and here digitally as well) we'll feature some of our favorite Readers' Rides and a little bit about what makes each of them special. To start with, we've chosen cars from a few of our contributor's garages... you can see that what we roll in is just as diverse as we are!
Interested in submitting yours? Send in a photo and a couple sentences about what makes it special to editor@drivingline.com, and it could appear here and in print next!
Harry Wagner | 1986 Toyota Pickup
While I have no shortage of project vehicles, this '86 Toyota Pickup is the one that I hold in highest regard. Equipped with a turbocharged engine, dual transfer cases, and locking differentials, it tackles trails like the Rubicon with ease while remaining civil enough to drive down the freeway.
Kristin Cline | 1955 Studebaker Champion
It’s always an adventure having a classic as your daily driver – I love that she puts a smile not just on my face but also those I share the road with. While I’ve fully swapped out the drivetrain of my Studebaker, opting for the ease of a SBC while working to build up a 331 Cadillac to replace it with, the Stude’s sixty-year old paint still coats the exterior giving it an extra dose of character.
Albert Roxas | 2009 Audi R8 V8 4.2
The R8 is the perfect combination of an exotic but with daily driver amenities, I’ve taken it to Costco a bunch of times. I like that it’s not as pretentious as some exotics, but true enthusiasts know about the vehicle. Of 18 vehicles, this is the one I’ve kept the longest!
Justin Pagtalunan | 2011 Scion tC
Who says you can't have a nice daily driver? "Clean and simple" is my vision everytime I work on my Scion. Subtle modifications and attention to details have been my focus, but don't be fooled, I have some big things coming for it soon enough!
Lori Carey | 2007 Jeep Wrangler JK
My Jeep takes me on grand adventures to amazing places that most people can only dream of visiting. She's an on-going project; I don't think any Jeep owner has ever said they are finished building! It's impossible not to smile every time I climb into her, especially when I'm driving with the sun in my face and the wind in my hair, thinking about our next big adventure.
Tim Sutton | 1947 Chevy Custom
Having spent most of my life loving the hotrod and custom car world, I decided to build my own custom car in the essence of the great builders of the ‘40s and ‘50s. It's sort of a GM dream car - using components from most period GM models to make this a one-off traveling work of art. I've built many cars in the past, but this one is my keeper.
