Show What You're Made of at Subiefest 2014
Where can you find the largest all Subaru Event in America, and possibly in the world? Subiefest! This once-a-year event draws thousands of Subaru fans and owners from different regions of SoCal, Norcal and surrounding states like Nevada, Arizona and Utah, and as far away as New York, together in one venue. This year’s Subiefest marks the 2nd year held at the impressive Auto Club Speedway racing complex in Fontana, CA and the 9th year running for the festival. Subiefest has found a home at Auto Club Speedway after stops in Oregon at Portland International Raceway, then Rosamond, CA at Willow Springs International Raceway and a few years at Pomona Fairplex. Every aspect of this year’s event was larger in comparison to last year’s event - with more than 6100 attendees and 3000 Subaru’s present. This year Subiefest was backed by various sponsors including, Subaru of America, Nitto Tire, Borg Warner, Grimm Speed, and Mothers Polish to name a few, along with 70 other industry sponsors.
The car show during Subiefest was sold out and hosted 140 cars of the best stanced, dumped, slammed flush, and hellaflush Subaru’s California has seen. With such a wide genre of Subaru’s to show, the competition was divided into 18 categories.
This year’s AutoX event hosted 80 competitors with a total of seven ranking on top within their series. It was clear the competition included experienced drivers as they zipped through the course with tires screeching, while the beginners had a hard time managing their speed and steering as they attempted to gun it through the tight corners.
To complement Subiefest’s car show and AutoX, Extreme Speed Track Events hosted a track day on the flat, but challenging inner course with more than 70 track-ready Subie’s hitting the tarmac.
To keep the music livery in tune with the show event, FUNKWORKS came to provide the crowd with their awesome sound system normally found at music festivals like “Burning Man”.
It was only fitting that Red Bull Global Rally Cross chose to make their appearance at Subiefest, since Subaru’s are well nestled into the Rally Cross industry with their AWD performance. While Subiefest was being held in Auto Club Speedway, Red Bull GRC was holding a first time ever double header hometown race in the Port of Los Angeles. With all things lined up, we’ll be able to catch up to Red Bull GRC in Las Vegas later this year.
At the heart of the event sat the vendor area with names to include Nitto Tire, Mothers Polish, Wilwood Disc Brakes, Borg Wagner, and Grimm Speed. Giving out a total of 110 ride alongs, Yimi Sport Tuning booth captured the crowd’s attention. Mark Jager and his blue 2006 STi AKA “Honey Badger” was amongst Yimi booth’s most popular. Even after the car was driven till it broke, Mark captivated his audience and continued to keep the enthusiasts coming.
Richard Garcia, President/CEO of Dyno-Comp Inc. provided an AutoX demo along with free sim-rides to 10 lucky contestants in the fully race prepared Unlimited Class 700+ HP Dyno-Comp STi.
As the California sun crept towards the horizon, the folks at Subiefest started the long awaited final raffle from the various sponsors and vendors. Even after more than $30,000 worth of prizes were given out, the crowd eagerly waited for the two grand prizes; each would win a set of Nitto tires of their choice. Cinthia Olmedo and Chris Peoples were finally crowned the winners of the tire raffle. It’ll be hard to outdo this year’s Subiefest, but with such a strong following and the interest garnered by the automotive industry, we only see this festival growing next year.
