Wekfest LA 2014: The Elites [Video]

Go big or go home – Wekfest LA is the show where the elites come out and play. It's is one of the first major shows that brings around the best, and not just from Southern California; there were a lot who made the drive down from Northern California and even a few from out of state. With the majestic Long Beach ocean view and the historic Queen Mary as the backdrop, it was the perfect setting to highlight these elite builds.

wekfest-2014-01 People got here early and endured the scorching sun; this was clearly the place to be. There were people lined up as early as 10 AM, keep in mind the show officially starts at 1 PM. This was the line at around 12 PM or so, it goes as far back as the Queen Mary itself!! Wide was the way to go at Wekfest (try saying that 5 times fast!). There were so many widebody builds that it’s only fitting we feature some of these Widebody Wonders. The Tjin Edition X DaYUUM RoadShow featured not one, not two, but three widebodies. wekfest-2014-02 Liberty Walk Nissan GT-R, which won 1st place Best Import. wekfest-2014-03 The aggressive details go deep into the engine bay with this beastly custom paint job. wekfest-2014-04 Vince’s freshly revealed RWB iForged Porsche 993. wekfest-2014-05 And Christian’s Vortech Supercharged Rocket Bunny v.1 Scion FR-S. wekfest-2014-06 This widebody Porsche has seen some better days, but you know what they say, “Chicks dig scars.” Moving along, Canibeat had something quite different… wekfest-2014-07 Noel’s #NotRocketBunny one-off Varis widebody kit for his immaculate Scion FR-S. Getting into the teeth of the show, before the flood of spectators makes their way in, I spot a couple widebody BMWs... wekfest-2014-08 LTMW's Rocket Bunny BMW E36 on BBS wheels wrapped in Nitto Tires - can’t think of anything classier. wekfest-2014-09 BMW ZM4 with a carbon fiber wide body. I actually remember seeing this particular car at SEMA, it ranked within my Top 10 Carbon Fiber Themed Vehicles. Sometimes wider doesn’t always mean bigger... wekfest-2014-10 This is probably one of the most aggressive Lotus Elise I’ve seen. Sitting small and on clean bonze BBS wheels, just look at how super wide the rear fender is, WOW. With the SoCal car scene so saturated, you will always bump into people you know here and there: friends, acquaintances, social media followers, and even a fellow DrivingLine contributor! wekfest-2014-12 In the first installment of #JDMWongInvades, I captured him (Jonathan) giving me a quick tutorial on how he would drive the Liberty Walk Nissan GT-R. There were a ton of widebody builds at the show, but there were also a lot of other builds that demanded some appreciation too. The “FR-S of the 90’s,” the car you drove if you were a “Baller” – the timeless Integra was the IT tuner car back when I was growing up and I was ecstatic seeing it well represented in multiple elite builds, especially these two. wekfest-2014-13 Bright yellow color, clean white wheels, JDM front end. David's build really takes me back to the tuner days of yesteryear. wekfest-2014-14 And back at the Canibeat booth, Mikey’s Teggy was sharing the stage with Noel’s FR-S. wekfest-2014-15 Completely rebuilt and super clean. This car was finished and trailered in, just in time for the show. wekfest-2014-16 This Godzilla was chilling low on the grass with its AirREX Air Suspension. wekfest-2014-17 wekfest-2014-18 wekfest-2014-19 Speaking of low, there was a surprisingly large amount of uniquely built Subbies that were basically hugging the pavement. Now you've seen my favorites, check out the video below by fellow DrivingLine contributor, Araik Yegazarian. Enjoy and catch you at the next show! – @justdayuum
