ULTRA4 MetalCloak Race Recap [GALLERY]
The Ultra4 West Coast series kicked off last weekend at the MetalCloak Stampede in Prairie City, CA, with some of the most action packed races I've seen to date. Epic battles waged in every heat, leading up to a stacked 4400 main event - it wasn't just a battle between the top few, but the entire field. Starting in the pole position was Shannon Campbell, who would hold the lead for 11 adrenaline-pumping laps with 2014 King of the Hammers Loren Healy nipping at his heels. Loren would take the lead for just 1 lap before Nitto teammate Jason Scherer got a leg forward in his brand new, yet to be proven, car. Scherer's team had worked feverishly throughout the weekend getting out those inevitable bugs. Scherer started with in 15th and managed to climb his way to lead the pack for 3 laps when some errors would drop him back into the 12th position. All the while Tom Wayes, who had started in the back after suffering a rollover during prelims, had made his way through the field and passed Loren Healy taking the lead while laying down the fastest lap time of 2.27 minutes. Wayes took the checkered flag, followed by Healy in 2nd, Jake Hallenbeck in 3rd, followed by Healy's two Nitto teamates, Nick Nelson and Rickmooneyham. The word "EPIC" seems to come short at describing this past weekend in Prairie City!
