Gearhead's Trip to EU: Redbull Hanger 7

It’s the most popular energy drink in the world, branded by the most extreme sports in the world and possibly has the most insane hanger in the world. I’m talking about Red Bull and the infamous Hanger 7. Nestled in Salzburg, Austria – better known as the birthplace of Mozart and “The Sound of Music”, Red Bull’s Hanger 7 houses the personal collection of Dietrich Mateschitz, co-founder of the world renowned energy drink.

The hanger alone is architecturally stunning. The afternoon we arrived it was pouring rain, but I was able to catch a few shots of the predominantly glass exterior. Housing not only airplanes, Hanger 7 holds everything from cars, to motorcycles, and other Red Bull specific paraphernalia such as the wings Felix Baumgartner used to skydive across the English Channel with. Entrance is free and there is a great restaurant inside if you decide to stay for a bite to eat.

Unless you’ve been under a rock, you’re aware of Red Bull’s F1 Racing success, with Sebastian Vettel taking the championship the last 4 years. This domination is proudly displayed throughout Hanger 7, showcasing the history of the Redbull F1 cars throughout the years, from their initial participation in 1995.

For the 2014 Season, Redbull Racing has struggled to regain its top form. Potentially due to the engine switch from V8 to V6, Mercedes has owned F1 this current season. Additional controversy came from Red Bull's request that Mercedes be punished for not adhering to the fuel flow regulations at the Australian Grand Prix. Vettel and newcomer Daniel Ricciardo have made a go of it, even competing with each other at times. Only time will tell if Red Bull will add another Championship F1 vehicle from 2014 to the stable at Hanger 7.
